Strawberries can be left in the ground all year in your gardening region but they will need a thick mulch (straw or shredded leaves) to protect the crowns during the winter months. You can pot some up and take them indoors but it is not likely they will flower and produce berries unless you keep them under grow lights. They flower only when the length of day is equal to or longer than the length of the night. Best wishes with your strawberries!
