| New house...cat has brought in 9 voles. Lawn was recently dethatched and there are many areas, front and back yard where there is evidence of dirt bubbling to the surface. Sort of like sand fleas burrowing into the sand at the beach. Some areas are hard and some are mushy. How to I determine if voles are involved? Understand they multiply rapidly. Our backyard is on the golf course. Thanks. |
| Voles are tiny creatures, and are sometimes referred to as field mice. They don't dig tunnels or make large mounds. Moles don't always make visible, above-ground tunnels, either, but can simply make mounds of soil, with a hole in the top, along their paths. So if you don't see actual holes or see raised areas that could be underground tunnels, there probably are not moles in the lawn. The small holes with soil on the surface are probably from earthworms trying to escape overly soggy soil. Earthworms are good for the soil so I would not recommend trying to deter them. It is really difficult to know what is going on with your lawn so I am at a loss as to what to suggest. Wish I had a solution to share with you! |
