What should I do now to start preparing my perennial and bush garden for the warmer weather? There are a few perennials starting to grow, but many aren't out yet. What should I do to the ground before the plants come out? I live near Pittsburgh, PA

If your beds are already planted, a layer of organic matter over the bare earth will help suppress weeds and slow water evaporation. Use 2-3 inches of compost over the top of the soil and your beds should be weed free all summer long. Enjoy your landscape!
