I've read online that people have been successful with growing grapes in containers, sometimes even achieving a harvest. What kind of support system will work for this? Will sticking several bamboo or wood supports in the container be sufficient?

Grapevines are rampant growers so you will need a sturdy trellis for the vines, or even a fence that they can sprawl up and over. Wood supports won't be strong enough unless you anchor them into the ground. You might also try running some heavy duty wires from the eaves of your house and anchored in the ground so you can tie the grapevines to them and they can grow upwards. Best wishes with your grapevines!
