| You can lower the soil pH with peat moss as an organic amendment, feeding with an acidified fertilizer such as Miracid, and incorporating some elemental sulfur into the planting bed. I would use 2 pounds of elemental sulfur over a 100 square foot bed, digging it in to the soil to a depth of about 6-8 inches. Then spread compost or peat moss over the bed (2-3 inches thick) and dig that in to the soil. Level the soil, plant your gardenias and then side dress with pine needles or peat moss. Feed with an acidified fertilizer during the growing season and your gardenias should thrive. Best wishes with your new plants! |
