The Q&A Archives: Gopher and Mole Control with Plants

Question: Is there a plant that can help control gophers and moles? If so what is the name and where can I purchase this plant?

Answer: The plant you may be thinking of is called gopher purge or gopher spurge (Euphorbia lathyrus). Although we have seen no actual evidence that it really does keep gophers at bay, many gardeners swear by it. One suggests that the roots are so extensive anddense that gophers simply cannot dig through it. Your local nursery may offer plants for sale although it doesn't seem to be winter hardy very far north.
