The Q&A Archives: Perennials for sale now/planting time?

Question: I went to Home Depot and other garden centers recently and saw certain perennials for sale. Can they be planted safely now?

Answer: Plant shipments are timed so that whatever is available can be immediately planted in your area. These are just general guidelines, though. If you plant new perennials and then unseasonably frosty weather threatens, you will want to cover the plants to protect them from frost. Best wishes with your garden!
