| Since it is early in the season you can first prune them back to make them easier to handle after digging and while moving. To make them easier to dig, water the soil well the day before you plan to move them. Moist soil is easier to dig than dry soil! Try to keep the rootball intact as much as possible. It's okay to sever small roots, but dig carefully to keep the majority of the roots from being damaged. Expect to find the roots in the top 12 to 18 inches of soil, extending out slightly farther than the width of the shrub. After digging cover the roots so they are not exposed to sunshine and either replant them immediately or set them in containers or buckets until you can replant them (within a few days).
