Question: How early in the growing season can I plant grass seed? I am In northern Ill, and zone 5

Answer: Grass seed will germinate in soil temperatures above 40F but will sprout faster if the soil is warmer. I would wait until mid-April to sow new grass seeds. Best wishes with your lawn!
