My backyard is just grass. It has full sun with sandy soil. Help! What can I do so I have color and the plants survive the heat! |
You can help your new plants get off to a good start by amending your sandy soil with plenty of compost or other organic matter to help the soil hold nutrients and moisture. Once you have done that, here are some plants that might do well for you: Annuals: Baby's Beath; Begonia (nonstop); Coleus; Crossandra; Dahlia; Exacum; Impatiens (plant in most shaded area); Streptocarpus. Some perennials: African Iris (Dietes spp); Daylilly (Hemerocallis spp.); False Dragon Head (Physostegia viriginiana); Firespike (Odontonema strictum). Good luck with your garden! |
