We live in zone 11 - 2 of our 3 crotons are seriously loosing their leaves. The leaves are turning white where they join the wood. Can you tell me what this is and how we can stop it. |
I cannot tell if the white stuff is a fungal disease called powdery mildew or there is a colony of mealybugs attacking your plant. Powdery mildew is on the surface of the leaves and can be wiped off with your finger; mealybugs are little insects with a waxy cottony looking coating. If the problem is powdery mildew, remove all the affected leaves to stop the spread of the disease and to open it up to better air circulation. If the problem is mealybugs, you can control them with sprays of insecticidal soap. Best wishes with your croton! |
