The Q&A Archives: I want to know the name of a tree

Question: In April on the East Coast, a pretty lavender tree blooms and here in California its blooming right now, what is it? It only blooms for a couple of weeks and the branches are spindly and spaced.

Answer: Without seeing the tree or knowing the shape of the flowers I am still going to take an educated guess and say the tree in question is a Jacaranda. These trees produce a multitude of cluster type flowers and they are not only beautiful, they are extremely fragrant.
