The Q&A Archives: aromatic shrubs

Question: There was a bunch of shrubs at Six Flags with variegated green oblong leaves, smell lovely - reminds me of Jasmine - but I saw no flowers on the bushes. Any idea what they are?

Answer: I'd be only guessing because most fragrance comes from the flowers, not from the foliage - Sweet Shrub, Sassafras and Spice Bush all have aromatic leaves and they all grow in the southern states. Perhaps one of these is the shrub in question.
