The Q&A Archives: Dunk Tablets - How Safe Are they for Water

Question: I plan to use a water barrel this year to collect rain water for our vegetable garden. I would like to treat the water with 'Dunk' tablets to prevent mosquito larva. Will the 'dunk' end up collecting in my veggies and make us sick.

Answer: Mosquito Dunks contain Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (B.t.i.). B.t.i. is a bacterium toxic to Mosquito and black and psychodid fly larvae but harmless to other insects, people, pets, plants and the environment.
