With that wonderful picture window I don't blame you for wanting to look out at a beautiful landscape! Here are some shrubs to consider: Glossy Abelia (Abelia x grandiflora) Pale pink (almost white), funnel-shaped flowers, June-frost. Grows 3-6' tall; 'Compacta' - 3-4 feet tall, 'Sherwoodii' - Plant is smaller than the species and the leaves are also smaller, giving the plant a finer texture. 'Sunrise' - Leaves edged with gold. Burkwood Daphne (Daphne x burkwoodii) Small fragrant flowers (pink in bud, but white upon opening) in spring; blue green summer foliage; small red berries in summer; grows 3-5'; 'Carol Mackie' - Leaves edged with cream, fragrant pink flowers, 3 feet tall. Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii), grows 3=5' tall; Small yellow flowers in clusters in spring; bright red berries in clusters in autumn and winter; autumn color is orange, scarlet and purple. Bluebeard (Caryopteris x clandonensis) grows 2-3' tall, Clusters of small blue or blue-purple flowers from late summer into autumn; gray-green foliage; light brown seedheads can add mild interest in winter. 'Blue Mist' - Powder blue flowers. 'Dark Knight' - Purple-blue flowers. 'Longwood Blue' - 4 feet tall with blue violet flowers. Bumald Spirea (Spiraea x bumalda); Clusters of white, light pink or dark pink flowers in early to mid-summer; foliage of some cultivars exhibit color in spring and summer; autumn color bronze to purplish. 'Anthony Waterer' - 3-4 feet tall, carmine pink flowers, young foliage is reddish changing to blue green, autumn color may be russet red. 'Coccinea' - Deep, carmine red flowers. 'Fire Light' - 2-3 feet tall, pink flowers, new foliage emerges orange and maintains some of that color in summer, autumn color is red. 'Froebelii' - 3-31/2 feet tall, bright pink flowers, new growth emerges with red tones. 'Goldflame' - From spring into summer leaves change from bronzy red to yellow to yellow green to green, flowers are pink. Dwarf Flowering Almond (Prunus glandulosa) grows about 4 feet high and wide; White or pink flowers (single or double depending on cultivar) in spring; fruit are small red cherries, usually produced in small numbers (or not at all on cultivars with double flowers).
