What is the correct fertilizer for dahlias, I leave them in the ground with plenty of mulch and then cover with a soda bottle cut in half, all grew and flowered eventually, except one. I do my own compost and I did add that to the areas, is there a fertilizer just for dahlias?

Dahlias have a preference for low nitrogen, high phosphorous, high potassium fertilizers. Choose a 5?10?15 or 5?10?10 formulation, sometimes called a bloom booster. Too much nitrogen will result in lush green growth, at the expense of flowers.
