How would you go about transplating elephant ears? |
Elephant ears grow from large tubers. Their foliage usually dies back in the winter but if yours still has leaves on it you can cut them back, dig the tuber and replant. It takes a little bit of investigation and some guesswork to determine how to plant a dormant tuber. One end should have a little more 'hairiness' to it. Those are reminants of old roots and that is the end that should be planted down. Also, one end may be slightly more tapered/pointy. That end goes up. If you really can't tell, plant the tuber sideways--the roots will find their way down, the shoots up. Good luck with your garden! |
