I purchased a compost bin. I read that the bin should not be close to the garden. It's located at the back of the house and 17-20 feet from my vegetable garden. Would this be considered too close. I'd like to start composting right away. Thank you.

I am a little confused about what you read because most gardeners find it easiest to place their compost bin near their gardens. The only caution is that you might wnat to place it a short distance away from outside patios or decks, because flies might be a nuisance. And, on hot summer days there may be mild odors from the rotting vegetation. This smell bothers some while it doesn't bother others at all. Place your compost bin where it will be handy and yet where it won't be bothersome in the summer months. Best wishes with your composting adventure!
