The Q&A Archives: Help

Question: I would like to know what type of shrubs I need to plant in Georgia, mostly shaded and a damp garden area?

Answer: Virginia sweetspire (Itea virginica) inhabits low, wet places in nature but seems equally happy in dry garden soils. Its white, fragrant flowers appear in June and July; in fall, its foliage turns a brilliant purple crimson. Plumleaf azalea (Rhododendron prunifolium) has blazing red flowers that appear unusually late in the season for an azalea. It's a Georgia native. Hydrangea, winter daphne and beautybush will also grow in the shade. Best wishes with your landscape!
