Question: Last week, my landlord has given me a sprig of a shrub in his yard. It had small, very fragrant, yellow flowers and was fully leafed out. The leaves were about the size of the end of your thumb and resembled miniature

Answer: My guesses are:
Japanese cornelian cherry
Stachyurus praecox
Lindera benzoin (spice bush)
