The Q&A Archives: Vegetable Garden in Houston

Question: I just planted our first garden. I planted seeds in the ground on March 21st, we are about to get alot of rain how can I protect the garden from flooding?

Answer: If you have the opportunity to place floating row cover over the garden it will shed most of the rain although some water will leak through. The point is to keep the seeds from being bounced out of their places or floated away if the soil becomes over saturated. If you can raise the row cover material by tacking or stapling it to a temporary frame or structure it would be even more beneficial. Good luck with your garden.
