We moved into new construction in September 08. The lawn was hydroseeded on top of a fresh layer of top soil. There are spots that did not fill in, and the grass ended very patchy. What type of seed would you recommend for an upstate NY lawn that gets a fair bit of sun.

Bluegrass, ryegrass and fescues are all used in your gardening region so any would be good for reseeding bare spots in your lawn. You might want to check with the company that hydroseeded your lawn to find out what grass types were included in the lawn in the first place and then choose a similar seed or mixture of seeds to more closely match what you already have. Otherwise your reseeded areas might have a different color or leaf blade texture than the rest of the turf.
