| Grapevines grow best in average, well draining soils. You won't need to do anything special to the soil prior to planting grapevines. If you purchased bare root grape plants, soak their roots in water for two or three hours prior to planting. Make the planting holes slightly larger than the root systems of the plants. Set plants into the soil at about the level they grew in the nursery. The soil line mark and root initials indicate this level. Backfill with the original soil from the hole. Firm soil around the roots and construct a basin around each plant for ease in watering. When it is time to water, simply fill the basin with water, allow to drain, then fill it a second time. This will concentrate the moisture directly over the rootmass and allow it to trickle down slowly, wetting the entire root system. Grapes need to grow in full sunshine so find a nice sunny place for them. Enjoy! |
