I have White spots on my crotons which are in pots on my lanai in central FL. I think it's scale (last yr. had alot of it and Home Depot told me it was scale). They told me to rub it off with a cotton ball with either nail polish remover or alcohol. Can't remember which. What do you suggest? Thanks.

The standard strategy is to dab each of the scales with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Repeated applications may be required. Or, you can peel them off the plant with tweezers or a fingernail.
