Are there any nice flowering and easy to maintain shrubs (less than 3' tall)that will do well in a well shaded area around my house in south Florida (near Naples)?

There are no flowering shrubs that will remain only 3' tall but you can prune sweetshrub (Calicanthus floridus) or oakleaf hydrangea to keep them small. Instead, you might consider vining groundcovers for the area. Star jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum) flowers all summer long and will grow 2-3' high as it sprawls on the ground. Vinca minor is another vining groundcover that flowers for a long season.
