The Q&A Archives: is it too late to prune my roses?

Question: Time got away from me and I have not pruned my roses yet. I have tea and english roses and others. they are leafing and some even have buds.

Answer: Better late than never in terms of pruning your roses. If you do not prune them, they will grow quite large this year. If you do prune them, you will be able to control their size, and they will bloom more freely because pruning encourages lots of new growth. I'd go ahead and prune them back now. It won't hurt the plants and you'll end up with more flowers later in the season.
