Preemergence herbicides (weed killers) are available to use in spring for crabgrass control. These need to be applied to the lawn before crabgrass germinates. Late March into early April is the suggested time for applying preemergence crabgrass herbicide in our area. Most preemergence crabgrass herbicides are found in combination with lawn fertilizers, so crabgrass prevention and spring fertilization can be done at the same time. Talk to your lawn service company and request they add a pre-emergent to their regular spring fertilizing schedule.
