| I was wondering, can I plant strawberries in a 24'' round pot. And if I can would I have to retransplant them into the ground, and would I have to tie the plant when it starts to grow? |
| You can plant a single strawberry plant in a single pot and it may produce fruit for you this year, but certainly by next year. Strawberries send out runners and when they make contact with the earth they root and develop into a brand new strawberry plant. If the runners develop and cannot reach the ground they will produce new little plants but those plants will rely on the parent plant for the water and nutrients it needs. These plants may or may not produce fruit, depending upon the health of the parent plant but they look interesting hanging off the side of a pot. They may even flower for you. If you want to grow strawberry plants for the berries, you need to plant them in the ground. Otherwise, you can enjoy the plant as an ornamental. |
