Nevada?s soils are rather lean and need help to grow herbs and vegetables. Incorporating compost or aged manure will help improve your vegetable bed and your plants should be healthy and happy. Spread 4-5" of organic matter over the top of the soil and dig or till it in to a depth of 8-10". Then plant your veggies. You can mulch between the plants with another 2-3 inches of compost and dig it in at the end of the gardening season. A few years of adding compost will turn your soil into rich loam. Best wishes with your garden!
