Answer: There are two kinds of hibiscus: tropical and perennial. Tropical hibiscus has glossy tender leaves; perennial hibiscus has dull green leaves. Tropical hibiscus will not tolerate temperatures below about 35F but perennial hibiscus will. Since you've already removed the plants, and if you'd like to grow hibiscus, choose the perennial type - often called Rose of Sharon.
