| I live in central Texas and I have a native sage plant that is out of control. When can I trim it and how far back can I go to the old growth. I want to make it fill in and be managable. |
| Texas sage puts out most of its growth on the tips of the branches. I have cut mine back by two thirds and had them fill out nicely. I have also gotten so disgusted with some that I cut them all the way down to the ground. They didn't mind a bit and grew back to be full and rounded by the end of the summer. So, how far back you cut yours will depend upon how overgrown they are. Good luck with your shrubs. Spring is an excellent time to prune your plants. |
