Rake or dig out any old grass and roots, spread some compost over the soil and then level it. Depending upon the type of turf you are growing you may be able to take plugs or sprigs from other parts of your lawn and plant them in the bare spots or you may be able to find seeds of your particular turfgrass type. Either way, water the spots well and they should grow for you.
