| We just bought a house in the Chicago suburbs and there is a very large Hydrangea Annebelle. I dont think it has ever been pruned. Toward the end of March I pruned back the sticks to about 15 to 20 inches. I am now worried that I have cut off the flower buds. When do you properly prune these. |
| You're in luck! Annabelle is a stunning white hydrangea, often producing heads over 10" in diameter. Unlike the better known blue and pink hydrangeas (macrophyllas), Annabelle blooms every year even after severe pruning or intensely cold winters. The huge, white "drumstick" blooms appear in profusion without fail. Feel free to cut your Annabelle back as far as you'd like, even to ground level. It will reward you with fresh growth a lots of flowers each and every year. Enjoy! |
