| I have a Lady Banks Rose growing on an arbor. It is 3 yrs old and very sparse. The limbs which are there are very long and pretty. Does this need to be trimmed to promote more growth? If so when is the best time to prune it. |
| Lady Banks blooms only in the spring, so pruning is done after the bloom cycle. Old canes can be removed in favor of new ones, and by all means, prune to keep it trained and in bounds. A Lady Banks can take severe pruning, even down to within a few inches of the soil, but I prefer to simply shorten some of the canes after flowering has finished and occasionally remove an old cane that is no longer productive.
