The Q&A Archives: Pink Princess Escallonia growth rate

Question: I have planted about 15 small Pink Princess Escallonia purchased from the El Cajon home depot along my very long back fence but I am curious when to expect some grwth from them and how fast to expect them to grow. Thanks

Answer: Under absolutely perfect growing conditions, your escallonia can grow moderately fast (6"-12" per year). To encourage a dense growth pattern, lightly prune after flowering. The shrubs will produce two shoots where one was - making it thicker and denser - perfect for a screening hedge. It can take new plants 2-3 weeks to become established in the garden so expect some new growth in late spring. Best wishes with your new plants!
