I live outside of Nashville and my lawn is in part sun and part shade. What would be the best type of grass for me to use. Our home is new and the builders lawn never grew.

Kentucky bluegrass and Turf-type tall fescues will both grow well in your region. Tall fescues are more shade tolerant than bluegrass so you might consider either going with the tall fescue or planting a blend which will contain both turf grasses. To get things off to a good start, spread a few inches of compost over the area and dig it in, then rake the area smooth and broadcast your seeds. Spring is an excellent time to reseed a lawn. Best wishes with your new landscape!
