My bag of Halts + fertilizer says to apply in early spring and yet in another place says to apply when temperatures are 80 degrees. Here in Chicago, you just never know what to expect, when. Please advise a calendar date for applying this product.

Halts is a pre-emergence or preventative product and should be applied before crabgrass seeds sprout in the spring. I would apply it now to prevent the weed seeds from germinating. There is no calendar date to share with you. March or April are fine, depending upon weather. If it warms up in early March, apply it then. If it is still snowing in March, wait until the snow stops. Good luck with your lawn!
