Spring is an excellent time to plant azaleas. I'd put them in the ground now. Different azalea cultivars grow at different rates and can grow to different heights and widths. Check the tags on the plants. They will list the mature height and width of the plants. Unless you want to make a hedge out of your azaleas, plant them so they will be at least one foot apart when they reach maturity. This will ensure good air circulation around each azalea. Enjoy your garden!
