When is the best time to plant roses and where is a good place to plant them. A few years ago I planted some along our fence that runs east-west and they all died. I was distraught. This year I got my mom yellow and red roses for Mothers day and they were for sentimental reasons as her father died this year. I want them to grow and flourish...so I really need your help with this. Thanks

Roses need full sun all day long and soil that is evenly moist well drained (meaning not soggy or saturated). They also benefit from good air circulation during the summer but most of all, they need protection from cold winter winds. In your area many of the hybrid tea roses will suffer greatly during the winter and be weakened or killed without some protection during the winter months. You will need to water your roses once or twice a week during the summer months, soaking them deeply each time. Feed your roses every 4-6 weeks with a fertilizer formulated especially for roses.

Hope your roses grow well for you!
