I want to start a vegetable garden in detroit area if I germinate my seeds from scratch in the house at what point would it be safe i.e. month day... to transplant to the outside. Also I'm using a weedy square in my backyard what kind of soil should I mix in before I plant?

You can set your vegetable seedlings out in mid-May in a sunny garden bed. Amend the soil with some compost prior to planting and your veggies should thrive.
