| We just had a small area of sod installed two weeks ago. We have the sprinkler running every 4 hours for 5 minutes each time. It looks great except the edges of the pieces are yellow. I am not sure if the edges are rooted. What should we do? I don't want a fungus, and I don't know if I am over or underwatering at this point. |
| You may be overwatering the turf. The standard is to water twice a day (morning and late afternoon) for about 10 minutes each time. By the third week you need to water less frequently but for longer periods of time. The goal is to supply one inch of water per week to your sod. If you don't know how long it takes for you sprinklers to deliver a half inch of water, set some empty tuna or cat food cans on the turf and run your water for 15 minutes. Go out and measure the water, then adjust the amount of time you leave your sprinklers on so you can deliver enough water when you turn on the sprinkler system. Lift the yellow edges. If it does not lift easily it has rooted. If you can peel it up, it is not rooting properly. Roughen up the soil and lay it back down then either roll it (if the entire yard is affected) or stomp it down with your foot (if it's only a small area). You want the roots to make good contact with the soil. It should green up for you. |
