I have a lot of bare spots in my yard along with dirt areas where my dog has dug holes, how do I begin with repairing my lawn and getting grass to grow in the areas that are bare?

It is difficult to have a nice green lawn when you have dogs, because their urine has concentrated salts that kill the grass roots. but you should be able to repair the areas so they will green up. Start by raking out all of the obviously dead areas and working some compost into the soil. Fill in the holes and add a topdressing of compost to them, too. Broadcast some grass seeds, water them in and keep them moist until they germinate (7-10 days). The new grass will thicken up in a few weeks. Good luck with your lawn.
