The Q&A Archives: Northeast crabgrass

Question: I live in Massachusetts. Do I need to rake the lawn and aerate before I apply fertilizer with Halts to prevent crabgrass or can I just put it down and then rake a couple of weeks later? Thank you, Diane

Answer: It would be better to rake first and then apply your pre emergent product. If you apply first and rake second, it's possible you will rake out the pre emergent along with the old debris.
