| this is our first try at growing vegs. We have been told that you cannot grow some vegetables next to each other,as they will not do well. We are planting corn,peppers,tomato,lettuce,summer squash,cucumbers,and green and yellow beans. Do you see any problems with these plants being together? Do you have any tips that we should follow? | There is no reason for the crops you mention to not get along. The general rule of thumb is tall crops go in the back (north), while short crops go in the front (south) of your garden. This way no plant shades another. I place rows of corn, pole beans, and tomatoes in the back. The next row would be peppers, lettuce and bush beans. On the edges of the beds I'd plant summer squash and cucumber and let them vine outside the garden, thus saving space. They should all fit. Just follow the spacing recommendations on the packages and you'll end up having more food than you can eat!!! |
