I need help with gound cover. I need a ground cover for my back yard that is dog proof, won't attract gophers and is drought tolerant. It is a flat area, not a hill. We planted white dutch clover last year and attracted gophers like crazy. Now my back yard is bare and I need help! Is there such a thing as ground cover that won't attract gophers, is dog proof and drought tolerant?

I don't know of any dog resistant groundcovers, but you might try these tough plants: Aptenia cordifolia 'Apple Red' is an exceptional groundcover for your area, growing 6"-8" tall, bearing bright red flowers and requiring very little water. The height will help disguise any gopher tunnels or mounds of dirt they leave. Also consider Kinnikinnick, Calylophus hartwegii, Gazania, Malephora (Ice Plant) or Ground Morning Glory. Good luck with your new groundcover!
