| We recently moved into a new house with over 1,000 square feet of flowerbeds. In one long strip of these beds, there are hundreds of daisies! We were delighted when they came up last year, but they were too crowded and they grew so tall that they fell over and weren't so pretty anymore! How can I fix these two problems? |
| Overcrowded plants will compete for sunlight, moisture and nutrients and that competition can cause the flower stalks to be narrow and weak. I would dig and divide the plants this spring to give each one more elbow room. There are some nifty plant stakes on the market. One is made of two metal stakes with a hoop or circle at the top. You place it over the plant in the spring and as the stems grow they go right up through the center of the hoop which holds them upright. The foliage usually covers over the stakes and the hoop so you will barely know they are there doing their jobs of keeping the flowering stems upright. Best wishes with your beautiful garden! |
