The Q&A Archives: ideas for landscape choice

Question: I have 2 spots on a wall on either side of a window where I had boganvillas on trellis. They required too much prunning for this spot. I need something tall 6 to 8 feet that will not get too bushy. It is a very sunny location.

Answer: You might try a tall shrub rather than a vining plant. Shrubs typically require less pruning than vines such as your bougainvillea. Breynia disticha (Snow bush), Cassia alata (Candle bush), Yucca gloriosa (Spanish dagger) or bottlebrush might be good plants for the area.
