Unlike other trees, magnolias drop lots of leaves in the springtime. Leaf drop at this time is normal and natural. Often these leaves have spots - it's just a natural aging. Rake up the fallen leaves to remove them from the garden. If the spots are black and somewhat raised with fruiting bodies, a fungal disease is at work. Generally no treatment is necessary. If the leaves that remain on the tree are also developing spots, a fungicide such as Daconil can be sprayed on the tree. Best wishes with your tree!
