i left layers of straw and newspaper in garden i would like to no till my garden this year and just turn the dirt when i plant should i leave last years straw on the garden someone told me i would have more diseases in my plants that i need to rake the straw off or rototill it under i would like to leave it and and more news paper in between rows and straw and leaves any help apprecciated connie

I think you're right and others are wrong. Lasagna Gardening is a nontraditional organic gardening method that relies on a layering method called "sheet composting." The name "Lasagna," comes from the way garden beds are created from layers, the same way you layer ingredients when making a pan of lasagna. Watering and weeding are reduced through the heavy layers of mulch and by planting crops close together. The lasagna layering method quickly builds soils that are incredibly rich in nutrients, resulting in higher than average garden productivity. Don't rake off anything - just plant as you have planned and your garden should be quite productive and weed free.
