desert animals eating flowers - Knowledgebase Question

What can be done to detract animals (ground squirrels and pack rats) from eating plants? We have a cat that likes to go outdoors occasionally so poisons are not advisable. I can see there holes on the other side of the chain link fence but they also tunnel into the yard. Thanks for your help.

I think your only option is to fix the fence and then cage your most precious plants with cylinders of chicken wire. There's really no way to keep wildlife from your yard although you might want to try applying some predator urines sold in garden centers. They may help.
